Footnote
"Miss January" (1954) was the 1st to be presented as "PLAYBOY'S playmate for the month".
She was also the 1st to be named for the month of the issue in which she appeared.
Like most other models whose pictures were obtained from the Baumgarth calendar company,
she was anonymous. Only two years later did readers learn that her name was Margie Harrison.
(And only years after that did many early Playmates learn that they were Playmates.
They had posed for a photographer, and had no idea who later bought and published the picture.)
Margie's was also the last "Centerpiece" photo appearing on a single page.
And finally, her picture was not adorned as you see above and as we now expect — her title of "Miss January"
appeared only on the facing page, along with a mere two-sentence introduction.

When she returned as "Miss June", Margie had a picture spread over 2 pages in the center of the magazine.
She wasn't Playboy's first repeat Playmate though, for by then another had already posed under 2 different names.

Margie's June 1954 "Centerfold" might seem a likely inspiration for Playboy's iconic Femlin,
who was introduced 3 years later in the August 1957 issue.
However, creator LeRoy Neiman makes no mention of Margie as he describes Femlin's origins.
