T-minus 2 and counting. Let's get some Q's in here for Eleanor Bradley, Miss February 1959.
moderator
Okay, T-Minus Nothing. Here we go.
Eleanorbradley
Hi everyone! It's great to be here tonight. For all those with great memories, here I am!
Redwing
Hi Eleanor!! Thanks for joining us. Do you remember what record you were holding in your layout?
Eleanorbradley
Hi! Oh my god! I have no idea. It might have been "Strolling Violins." You stumped me.
Bcubed
What things could you not do in your layout that the Playmates do today in their layouts?
Eleanorbradley
You couldn't show nipple or pubic hair. Touching your genitals was probably another one.

Hi Eleanor, welcome to Cyber Chat. How has your career been going? Can you give us your view of changes in the Playmate role from then till now?
Eleanorbradley
My career has been really great. I did modeling for 14 years. I was the top photographic model for 10 of those years. I managed restaurants and fashion boutiques also. I also co-founded a fine arts society that sponsors outdoor concerts and gave scholarships away. We used members of the Chicago Symphony Lyric Orchestra.
I think it's a freer role. People don't have the same prejudices as they did then. I think more people know about Playboy. There's more of us (Playmates) in more places with more visibility.
David2
Good Evening Eleanor. What was the general perception of Playboy when you were a Playmate, and did it differ from your own before being a Playmate?
Eleanorbradley
I didn't know anything about Playboy before I became a Playmate. When I went to work for Playboy at that time, I couldn't get an apartment if they knew I worked for Playboy. I had to tell them I worked for HMH Publishing. Actually, Playboy found me an apartment.
Redwing
Would you have posed back then with todays standards?
Eleanorbradley
Probably not. Probably my own sense of modesty would have gotten in the way. Plus the morality was totally different back then.
Wil
Who was the most interesting person you met through your appearances on "Playboy's Penthouse"?
Eleanorbradley
I'm extremely proud to have met Carl Sandburg and had a conversation with him. It was like talking to a legend. Lenny Bruce, also. He was actually the feature interview in the magazine I appeared in.
I was on every show, there were so many celebrities: anyone who was anyone was on that show. I met them all, (just about).
Bcubed
Would you pose for Playboy today if asked?
Eleanorbradley
I did the 25th Anniversary shoot. And, yes I would pose today if they asked me.
Ricky9
Since we share the same last name, I was wondering what your heritage was?
Eleanorbradley
German, French, Irish, Indian and Croatian. I have a half brother I've never met though, maybe you're him? :)
Wil
You come from a big family. How did they feel about your becoming a Playmate?
Eleanorbradley
Thrilled to pieces, even then. I've got a bunch of glamorous looking siblings, two brothers and six sisters.
Redwing
Did you ever consider yourself a sex symbol?
Eleanorbradley
Not really. I think if someone looks at you as a sex symbol it's their opinion. If I looked at myself as being a sex symbol, I don't feel that I would be a real human being. It would be fake in a way. I think of myself as sensual rather than sexy.

Aside from the housing problems...
Jae68
How did other people treat you when they found out you were in Playboy?
Eleanorbradley
Well, I had to quit my job as a tour guide at Abbott Labs. The men on the line loved me but the women would hold up, ummm, messages to me.
The kids I went to high school with didn't believe it was me. When I went to my high school reunion, I found out I had a hell of a lot more dates than I really had.
Eleanorbradley
laughs hysterically.
Wil
Did the pharmaceutical company for which you worked ask you to quit? How long was it before you left and went to Playboy to work?
Eleanorbradley
Well, fortunately Playboy had asked me to come to work for them. I was very shy and I couldn't put up with the derogatory comments from the other women.
Budsms
If you could have held up messages back to the girls at Abbott, what would you have said?
Eleanorbradley
"If you could've done it you would have!"
Wil
What was your family's reaction to your posing for Playboy in 1979, twenty years after you were a Playmate?
Eleanorbradley
They all went out and bought the magazine. As a matter of fact, my husband talked me into doing it.
Redwing
Do you prefer guys with or without beards?
Eleanorbradley
I love beards!!! My husband has a mustache. They have to be well maintained, though.
Bcubed
How come they don't show your '79 shots in your pages? I think they should!
Eleanorbradley
I believe they post only the Playmate layout shoots on the Playmate Pages.
Wil
Even though you're from Playboy's back yard, you were discovered when visiting your sister in California. How did that come about?
Eleanorbradley
My sister was very ill and I was out there visiting her. I went to Ron Vogel's studio to pick up pictures that he had done of my sister. And he asked me if I was interested in posing.
Interesting footnote: I believe my headshot was the first ever used as a centerfold and they were test shots not layout photos.
Wil
Through working for Playboy and appearing on the TV show, you've met a lot of the other Playmates. Which ones became your friends?
Eleanorbradley
Well, when I was working for Playboy, Joyce Nizzari. I didn't really become friends with Playmates, because I moved right into high fashion modelling after my pictorial. I loved Joni Mathis a lot too.
moderator
If anyone...
Jae68
Who did you look up to?
Eleanorbradley
Any president's wife. What a terrible job. Not only do they have to be married to politicians, they have to pretend to like it.
David2
You mentioned the strict morality that existed back in the 50's. How does that compare to the so-called "family values" crusades going on today?
Eleanorbradley
I think unfortunately the family values crusades are politicians feathering their own nests for votes.
Redwing
What was the most interesting thing that happened to you as a Playmate?
Eleanorbradley
I think when I was visiting a Marine base in El Toro and I got to be the second woman ever to fly in an F-86 fighter jet.
Budsms
Do you have any photos of yourself as Miss Marine Air Reserve?
Eleanorbradley
Sure. There was a picture of me in my jumpsuit in the cockpit of an airplane.
Albertandmarina
Will you be making any personal appearances any time soon?
Eleanorbradley
Through the Playmate Alumni, I hope to be making some appearances. I was going to go to the Glamourcon show, but I might be too late in getting in. I am definitely checking it out though.
Redwing
What advise would you give someone thinking about posing for Playboy?
Eleanorbradley
Have the support of their family and be secure with themselves. If they have that, then go for it. Definitely. You don't want to be 100 years old and look back and wish that you'd tried.
Wil
How much fan mail did you receive in 1959?
Eleanorbradley
Not a lot. I was where most of the fans worked.
Jae68
What type of music did you like then?
Eleanorbradley
I loved all kinds of music and I love to dance. I love rock, the blues, and country. I've always loved every kind of music.
Redwing
How much fan mail do you get today?
Eleanorbradley
I don't get any today, because nobody remembers who I am. I do most of my autographs through John O'Neil.
Redwing
That will change!!
Jae68
We remember.
Wil
Like hell we don't!
Eleanorbradley
Thanks guys!
Eleanorbradley
kisses.
Jae68
Do you think the change that Playboy has gone through since you posed is for the better or worse?
Eleanorbradley
I think that's kind of hard to judge, because everyone has their own standards. I still think that Playboy is still primo. It does the best job at portraying women as beautiful and sensual.
Redwing
What did you think of the Playboy Clubs?
Eleanorbradley
It's funny, I did all the PR for them but was never in one until the the last day it was open. I thought the concept was great.
Bcubed
Who is John O'Neil and how do we get in touch with him?
Eleanorbradley
He is a professional autograph finder and he specializes in Playmate autographs. You can reach him at: 300 W. Lakeview Ave., Madison, WI 53716-2112.
His fax # is 608-221-3998 *69. You can also find him online as well: www.pin-ups.com
Budsms
Speaking of 100 years old, is your father-in-law still alive?
Eleanorbradley
Yes, he is. He's a romantic Italian from the old country. He could give lessons. He will be 101 this year in October!
Wil
Was the 25th Anniversary Playmate Reunion as exciting as we fans would imagine it was?
Eleanorbradley
Absolutely! My husband went nuts.
Eleanorbradley
smiles.
Redwing
What do you notice first about a guy?
Eleanorbradley
Eyes. Then his smile.
Redwing
What do you think a guy first notices about you?
Eleanorbradley
Probably my eyes, if I'm sitting down.
Eleanorbradley
smirks.
Eleanorbradley
Maybe my height as well.
Wil
When did you marry, and when did you become a Mom?
Eleanorbradley
I married the first time in 1960. I had a baby 9 months later. Then one every two years. I stopped at four. Three boys and a girl. I've been married to my current husband for 16 years (in 2 weeks). We met on a blind date. I'm very happy with my Italian!
Redwing
If a fan saw you, would you prefer they approach you or leave you alone?
Eleanorbradley
Oh no! Come over and say "Howdy"!
Redwing
Is your daughter interested in following in your foot steps?
Eleanorbradley
No. She has other avenues that she wants to pursue. But she's very proud of me.
Jae68
Are you into sports? Were you when you posed?
Eleanorbradley
I love sports. I was a real football fanatic. Baseball is kind of boring to me. I love the last five minutes of basketball. I taught all my kids how to play football and they all won awards at punt, pass, and kick contests. I also love boating.
moderator
Whew! You people type fast! Only four minutes left so get those last questions in. Thanks a lot!
David2
What do your children think about Playboy?
Eleanorbradley
I give all my Playboys to my son. He collects them all. They think Mom's a fox. They were never hassled about it. When it came out they were too little, and when they were older, all of their friends wanted to meet me.
Albertandmarina
What did you think of "The Playmate Book"?
Eleanorbradley
I loved it. I thought it was wonderfully done. A lot of terrific trivia information in that book.
Redwing
Your photo's show a lovely smile. Did you always have it?
Eleanorbradley
Yes, and I still do.
Eleanorbradley
smiles.
Ricky9
I don't think that I am your half-brother (too bad for me) but the Irish is common to my family. Are other females in your family as tall or taller than you?
Eleanorbradley
I'm the tallest female, the shortest was 5'2". Oh well! About the half brother part.
Redwing
Eleanor thanks for joining us!!! Will you come back?
Eleanorbradley
You bet. I'm very happy that everyone remembers me. I'm very flattered.
Redwing
What is the nicest thing a stranger has done for you?
Eleanorbradley
Someone helped me change a tire on the side of the road.
Albertandmarina
My wife, Marina, says "Hi". It was great chatting with you.
Jae68
You have been great! Thanks for chatting with us!
David2
It's been great chatting with you Eleanor! I'd love to chat with you again!
Ricky9
Thanks Eleanor for all the interesting information. Hope to meet you in the future!
Eleanorbradley
Thank you Marina and Albert!
Eleanorbradley
Thanks Jae68, it's been a pleasure.
Eleanorbradley
Thank you David2.
Eleanorbradley
I hope to meet you also, Ricky9.

Eleanorbradley
I hope that you all have fun with Playboy and treat your mates like Playmates!
Eleanorbradley
Chao, Solitosoy.
Eleanorbradley
Thanks for being my bosom buddies!

Eleanorbradley
