Welcome, folks! Many thanks for being here! We've run into a little delay-of-game so if you'd like, feel free to surf around the Cyber Club. Just be sure to check back, and keep thinking up those questions.
Eileenkent
Hello, everybody.
moderator
Hey everyone. Eileen Kent (Playboy's VP of New Media) is here and is going to take your questions until Heidi arrives.
Ricky9
Eileen, are you seeing a lessening of the Playboy photos on other Web sites?
Eileenkent
Yes, I think so. At least the Web -- I don't know about the newsgroups. The copyright issues are very touchy.
Redwing
Hi Eileen! How about getting someone from the Playboy Store and/or subscription department for a chat?
Eileenkent
Oh, I don't know, Redwing. Could they keep you entertained for an hour? We're going to have Gary Cole on pretty soon.

And I expect that Alice Turner, our fiction editor, will turn up shortly, and Bruce Williamson.
Jae68
Hi, Eileen. Do you plan to have a "Where are they now?" section of the Playmates in the future?
Eileenkent
ABSOLUTELY! We're talking with Playmates every day and figuring out how to bring them together with the Cyber Club members. It will get a lot easier when more and more Playmates have access to the Web.
Redwing
If we should run into Playboy material on a Web site or in newsgroups, what can we do to help?
Eileenkent
You can email RAP@playboy.com (that stands for rights and permissions). We really appreciate your help, and so do lots and lots of small photographers who can't afford to protect their rights. They want Playboy to take a stand because it will benefit them.
Kahless
Eileen, will Heidi Mark be available for chat soon?

I'm sure Heidi Mark will take the time to chat. The Playmates are just about without exception happy to share with Playboy fans.
Ricky9
Lets say that I have a page called "Bustenhalter" that specializes in photos of women with clothing on, but I'd like a zinger that no one else has. So you lease me 50 photos for a week. I put them on my page and put a link to Cyber Club and a "used with permission."
Eileenkent
Let's say Bustenhalter just links to the Cyber Club and doesn't use any Playboy photography. There are many, many issues involved in intellectual property.
Dav
Some of the Playmates have their own Web sites; it would be nice to see a link from their Playmate Home Page if they request it.
Eileenkent
I believe we will link to their pages, but if they would rather just have pages in Cyber, we will try to accommodate that, too.
Redwing
Can pictures taken of Playmates at events be used on Web pages without getting into trouble?
Eileenkent
I think that photos of Playmates at public events are OK, but I'm not a lawyer.
Redwing
Does Playboy check the newsgroups on a regular basis?
Eileenkent
Yes, we look at the newsgroups.

We love our fans. We want them to be happy. But we'd also like to stay in business. You guys know better than anyone: The future lies in the digital world.
Wil
Even if they're identified as "Playmates"? That's a registered trademark, isn't it?
Eileenkent
Yes, Playboy's Playmates is a registered trademark.

Tell me what you'd like to see in Cyber. We love to pull rabbits out of hats. Your wish is our command.
Redwing
To stay out of hot water, don't use Playboy Playmate, instead say Miss 19xx?
Eileenkent
I don't think you can get in hot water for using the term Playboy Playmate. I think you get in hot water for giving the impression that whatever it is is sanctioned/sponsored by Playboy if it's not.
Wil
I'd like a complete index to all the articles published in Playboy. PEI used to sell printed copies of that.
Eileenkent
I have long wanted to digitize the entire index, but you can still buy the yearly printed index. For the most part, they're sold to libraries.
Jae68
More Playmate info and a chat with Mr. Hefner would be cool.
Eileenkent
Mr. Hefner will chat. We'll roll out the red carpet for the man himself.
Kahless
Eileen, I would like to see interviews with the Playmates.
Eileenkent
We hadn't really thought about interviews with the Playmates. I guess we thought that between chats and newsgroups that would do it.

BTW, new posts are on the way from several Playmates. Lots of them don't have computers, so we call them and transcribe and post for them.
Ricky9
How about a weekly chat on what we would like to see next with the different moderators or an involved employee or yourself?
Eileenkent
I will personally harass every Playboy artist, photographer, editor, stylist, model, writer and accountant to do chats on Cyber! Have we got stories for you.
Ricky9
Could a revisit with photos be arranged for just the Cyber Club? With Playmates, of course.
Eileenkent
Original photo shoots are *very* expensive (if you do 'em like Playboy does -- nothing is too good for the Playboy fan), but we're talking about it.
Budsms
Sorry, got in late (Bulls are ahead at the half). How many hours a day have you been spending to get the Cyber Club up and running? Do you anticipate being able to slow down?
Eileenkent
Hey, budsms. Nice to see you. I don't know how we'll ever wind down. Too much to do!
Budsms
Huh? Me?
Eileenkent
I'd like to introduce you to Budsms, a.k.a. Gretchen McNeese, author of The Playmate Book.
Wil
Hi, Gretchen! When's *your* chat session coming up?
Redwing
Can we expect to bump into Playmates in the Underwater Bar or other chat rooms?
Eileenkent
I think you will bump into Playmates in the chat rooms.
Ricky9
The Mansion has put on some wonderful parties, and some of them must have been covered by your photographers. Outtakes would be a fun area.
Eileenkent
According to the Photo Library archivist, Hef may be the most photographed man of all time -- more than Elvis. There are *lots* of outtakes.
Redwing
What are the odds of getting a tour of the Playboy building?
Eileenkent
I think a snail mail to Corporate Communications asking for a tour might just result in success -- especially if one mentions the Cyber Club.

But it's no longer the Playboy buildin the Playboy building was 919 Michigan Avenue -- the old Palmolive Building -- at one time the tallest building in Chicag The 60-foot-high letters that spelled PLAYBOY were a familiar sight on the skyline.
Kahless
Eileen, how about a spy cam, maybe overlooking some area of the Mansion.
Eileenkent
We are going to do a spy cam at Chicago Glamourcon.

I have to apologize for Heidi Becker not showing up. But I'm truly flattered that you stayed to talk with me.
Claus
Well, I'd like some more people. :) Any date for The Real Grand Opening?
Eileenkent
I have asked Gretchen to join me onstage.

The Real Grand Opening at this point looks like two weeks off. We're *very* disappointed to have to put it off again.
Redwing
Hi, Gretchen!
Budsms
In case you're wondering who Gretchen McNeese is, I was. Now I'm Gretchen Edgren (married to the new improved model). Nice to join you here. I would be pleased to do a chat sometime if anybody's interested.
Redwing
We are interested!
Budsms
Hi, Redwing! Thanks for the vote of confidence.
Wil
Gretchen, will you post to the "Playmate Fan Club" newsgroup and tell us lots of wonderful things we've always wanted to know about the Playmates?
Eileenkent
Gretchen and I worked together for a long time. I'm afraid I regressed to the time when she was McNeese.
Budsms
Actually, Wil, I've being running some liaison with the Playmates who are posting to the Playmate Fan Club.
Eileenkent
Besides writing The Playmate Book, Gretchen conducted the Playboy Interview with Bernadette Devlin.
Redwing
What was the most challenging part of The Playmate Book?
Budsms
Re Bernadette Devlin: I helped on that one. Can't take all the credit. As for The Playmate Book, the hardest part was probably trying to find as many as I could of 514 Playmates.
Eileenkent
Well, how about Clint Eastwood?
Budsms
Clint was a collaboration, too, with the late Arthur Knight of The History of Sex in Cinema fame. I can take full credit for the Erica Jong Interview, and we remain friends.
Redwing
How about The Playboy Book?
Budsms
What about it?
Redwing
What was the most interesting part of the project?
Budsms
The most difficult part was in some ways the most interesting: Locating the ladies. But the most fun was probably talking with them and finding out what they'd been doing. This was particularly interesting for me in regard to the Playmates from the Fifties and Sixties.
Eileenkent
You writing another book, Gretch?
Budsms
Apparently so, though I haven't signed a contract yet. In the works: Inside the Playboy Mansions.
Wil
I was fascinated to read in The Playmate Book just how many Playmates were pregnant during their shoot. I'd like to hear from the photographers how they hid that!
Eileenkent
What do you remember best about the Chicago Mansion?
Budsms
Eileen, I remember best the Sunday night movies and lobster tail on the buffet, along with the most heavily buttered (two-napkin) popcorn. They were cloth napkins, too. Wil: Sometimes the photographers said how they hid pregnancy (Joan Staley's script, etc.) I think somebody else was camouflaged with a phonograph record, if memory serves. Today we have something similar with Julia Louis-Dreyfus on Seinfeld.
Jae68
One of my favorite Playmates is Lisa Matthews. Whatever happened to her?
Budsms
I haven't spoken with her since The Playmate Book, but at that time she was living in the East and was very active in equestrian circles.

That's about all we have tonight. Thanks to everyone for changing gears with us! Eileen and Gretchen will be in the Events Lobby to talk with you a little more.
